Midterm Elections Analysis: Implications for Migrant Communities
Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees (GCIR), in partnership with Philanthropy California, Philanthropy New York, and Funders Together for Housing Justice, is hosting a two-part series that will provide an opportunity to debrief and reflect on the midterm elections. The program on Tuesday, November 10, "Midterm Elections Analysis: Implications for Migrant Communities," will bring together leaders in the field to share their analysis of the recent midterm elections and their implications for migrant communities. Building on that conversation, our Thursday, November 11 Network Huddle will serve as part II in the series, offering a funder-only space for philanthropic practitioners to reflect on key takeaways, exchange perspectives, and collectively consider what these developments mean for philanthropy’s role, priorities, and strategies in the months and years ahead.
Part I
Movement groups have been preparing for months to ensure that we have free and fair elections in which every voter’s ballot is cast and counted, free from intimidation and violence. Meanwhile, misinformation and disinformation campaigns have spread the falsehood that ineligible immigrants will vote, setting up a rationale to disqualify election results. Races up and down the ballot are poised to reshape how immigrant justice organizations advance their priorities and strategies in the year ahead.
Join leading democracy and immigrant justice experts to debrief how election security played out on the ground, gain insight into the implications of the midterm results, and anticipate what the movement’s next steps will be at various levels of government. Importantly, they will also explore how funders should approach the deployment of resources within the new policy context over the coming year.
