Signature Policy Events

Philanthropy California’s signature policy events give California funders unique opportunities to connect with state and federal lawmakers. We encourage our grantmaking community to build these cross-sector partnerships to scale our statewide work and improve the lives of millions of Californians.

Sacramento Day

Sacramento Day allows members of Philanthropy California to meet with California lawmakers to educate them on our sector's work and discuss issues of high importance to our communities. SCG members also participate in Sacramento Day to develop and cultivate relationships with fellow policy-oriented peers and policymakers. Together, we encourage legislators to think of Philanthropy California and its members as thought partners and collaborators, to trade lessons learned and best practices, and to educate them on the issues that matter most to California's communities.

Foundations on the Hill (FOTH)

Foundations on the Hill (FOTH), hosted by the United Philanthropy Forum, brings together hundreds of foundation leaders from across the country to meet with Congress and discuss issues of critical importance to philanthropy and the communities it serves. Philanthropy California’s delegation of members travels to Washington, D.C. every year to meet with our federal representatives and share our work in California. In past years, our team and delegation have met with Mayor Karen Bass, Rep. Adam Schiff, Rep. Jimmy Gomez, Rep. Jim Costa, and many other Congress members. We have also met with federal agencies, including but not limited to: the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Department of Transportation (DOT), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ). These meetings are essential for lawmakers and the federal administration to understand philanthropy’s role in addressing society’s most pressing issues. If you are interested in attending, please contact our team.

California Policy Forum Webinar Series

The California Policy Forum is a unique partnership between CalNonprofits, Philanthropy California, and the League of California Community Foundations. The California Policy Forum provides a platform to bring together the voice of nonprofits and philanthropy in our state and amplifies the sector's significance and priorities to policymakers and experts. This group curates quarterly educational webinars on various topics relevant to both sectors and that would benefit from a cross-sector approach. Previous topics have included Effective Storytelling for Stronger Advocacy, Ballot Measures: What to Know and How to Engage, and State of the Economy and Safety Net Tax Policies.
