Research, politicians, and philanthropy often group Asia American and Pacific Islanders as one demographic, even though they represent a diversity of countries and speak more than a dozen languages.
Leading the city post-bankruptcy is Mayor Michael Tubbs, who has garnered considerable media attention. The California Immigrant Resilience Fund provides direct cash assistance to immigrant Californians who are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, but are excluded from federal relief and ineligible for state safety-net programs.
